What Is Diarrhea?
Diarrhea is defined as having loose stools more than 3 times a day, watery diarrhea more than once a day, or stool with bloody mucus once a day. This condition is common across all ages.

Symptoms of Diarrhea

  • Nausea and vomiting.

  • Abdominal pain.

  • Frequent loose/watery stools.

  • Fever and headache.

  • Signs of dehydration: Weakness, fatigue, excessive thirst, reduced urination, dark urine.

Causes of Diarrhea

  • Bacterial infections from consuming unclean or undercooked food.

  • Viral infections or intestinal parasites.

  • Not washing hands before cooking or eating.

  • Using contaminated utensils.

  • Intestinal inflammation.

How to Prevent Diarrhea

  • Eat freshly cooked food. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat thoroughly before eating.

  • Avoid coconut-based snacks (prone to spoilage).

  • Wash hands before meals.

What to Do If You Have Diarrhea

  • Do not take anti-diarrheal medication (prevents expulsion of pathogens).

  • Sip ORS electrolyte solution to replenish fluids and minerals.

  • Eat bland, easily digestible foods (e.g., rice porridge).

  • Avoid spicy foods, dairy products, raw/undercooked dishes, and fermented foods.

When to Seek Medical Help
If symptoms persist beyond 24–48 hours or worsen (e.g., severe dehydration, high fever, bloody stools), consult a doctor immediately. Do not self-medicate, as it may aggravate the condition.
